报告摘要:The SKA Observatory is well on its way to becoming the world’s next great radio observatory.  With goals extending from discovering when the first stars formed in theUniverse to testing Einstein’s theory of gravity, the SKA will undoubtedly change our view of theUniverse and the objects within it.  Radio telescopes like the SKA give a unique view of Universe by revealing some of its most basic ingredients: gas and   magnetic fields.  It is from gas that stars form and to the gas that they return when they die.  The gas within a galaxy acts as its atmosphere,   conveying galactic “weather systems” from one place to another.    Beyond the confines of each galaxy, a   complex network of gaseous filaments may connect galaxies like an enormous   spider web.

Construction of the SKA Observatory’s two telescopes, SKA-Low and   SKA-Mid, are well underway Australia and South Africa, respectively.  The SKAO is an Intergovernmental Organisation made up of 14 member nations from around the world.    China has been part of this endeavour from the beginning.    In this talk Prof Naomi McClure-Griffiths will take us on a tour of theUniverse,   showing how the SKA will transform our   understanding of theUniverse.
