报告摘要:
The immediate answer to the question posed in the title of this seminar is apparently no. However, after more careful deliberation, the question may become less pretentious at much broader and deeper levels. The speaker, who made the transition from a theoretical physicist to an economist, will use his personal experiences to illustrate why doing fundamental research in quantum field theory shares a lot of similarities with doing quantitative automobile marketing, not only metaphorically but also mathematically. On the other hand, it is often the attention to dissimilarities that will actually determine whether the career transition is going to be successful.

黄�舟教授自1988年在麻省理工大学取得理论物理博士之后,一直致力于物理基础前沿――大型粒子物理实验。研究方向是:统计力学和计算物理。曾任华盛顿大学西雅图分校、波士顿大学和麻省理工大学的助理教授、研究员和研究科学家。1996年,加入福特公司,成为一名研发部的技术创新领导者,2009年底,担任福特汽车公司全球销售和研发部技术专家。
